History
of SAF Yacht Club
Three
decades ago, a boat club was born in Telok Ayer Basin. The Club
has its roots associated with HMS Laburnum, an old Japanese
warship that was then a training platform for the Singapore
Naval Volunteer Reserve. When the Club moved from Telok Ayer
Basin to Pulau Belakang Mati (now Sentosa), it acquired the
name: SAF Boat Club. In 1967, when the Club relocated to Seletar
Air Base, the name was changed to the present: SAF Yacht Club
(SAFYC). In 1977, after a brief sojourn on the premises of Changi
Sailing Club, the club moved in to its present home in Sembawang
Camp.
