2nd
SAFYC Byte Championship
First held in 2003, the SAFYC Byte Championship was introduced
when the Byte was nationally accepted by the Singapore Sailing
Federation as a dinghy for racing. The Byte is favoured due
to its size which caters to teen sailors who are caught between
the Optimist which caters to those with a smaller stature, and
the Laser which is more suitable for the advanced sailor.
The SAF Yacht Club is a forerunner in the introduction of the
Byte to Singapore. It also boasts the largest number of Byte
sailors in the national team.
A strong showing was made by Borstnar Katja, who swept top placements
for the Youth, Ladies and Open categories – she came in second,
first and second respectively. One of the sailing scene’s rising
stars, Katja sails with the SAF Yacht Club, which aced the Club
Team category.
Colin Cheng Xinru and Calvin Lim Zhi Yang complete the golden
triumvirate – both won top billings in the Youth and Open divisions
alongside Katja.
