Celebrating 40 Fabulous Years!
(Use your "Back" button to return to this page.)

SAF Yacht Club began its journey in 1967. From a humble beginning, the Club has growth into an established yachting and sailing club with modern facilities. Long time Members, old time friends and the newer Members must indeed be proud of the achievements of our Club.

To celebrate this major event of 40th Anniversary, celebratory activities were planned stretching over two entire weekends, featuring endless entertainment throughout for our Members and Guests. A total of six major events were held continuously and almost simultaneously with other activities in a successful bid to keep everyone entertained

SAF Yacht Club was proud to have hosted some 2,500 Members and Guests as they came together to celebrate our Club’s 40 years of history.

The Amazing Car Race was set to trace the Club’s history in various locations in a fun and exciting manner while the onshore fishing competition is a celebration of the growing interest in fishing at the Club. A friendly Fabulous 40 keelboat race was included to involve our merry making skippers and their crew in the Club’s celebrations.

An ever-popular social event, which attracts the skilful strategist, the Mahjong competition achieved its highest number of participants at 128 which was about 50% above its usual participants.

The Wacky Race made its return from request by nostalgic members who miss the quirky fun and fuzzy-rules competition. Wacky names of the participating teams such as Bumble Bumble, Fishy Ball and No co-operation, added to the element of fun. The little mighty panel of judges for the competition was made up of young SAFYC members below 15 years old. They also presented the prizes to the participants. True to the nature of its wackiness, the race results surprised everyone by awarding the grand prizes to Neh Neh, the team who clocked the longest time to complete the race while My Helm, being the fastest team, walked away with consolation prizes. But indeed, what is most important was that all participants, including their supporters who were cheering from shore, had a fantastic time and displayed great sportsmanship during the relay.

One of the main attractions was the Sea Sports Extravaganza in both clubhouses where members and public get to enjoy rides on banana boat, powerboat, jet ski, keelboat, the laser-pico and kayaks making full use of their complimentary coupons or at a fee of $3.00. There were good responses for the wakeboarding showcase and tryouts on 9 & 10 June 2007 in Sembawang Clubhouse as well.

The Pirates’ Night Cocktail Parties, at both Changi Clubhouse and Sembawang Clubhouse, were received overwhelmingly by our members and their invited guests. The lucky star shone on those whom went home with great prizes courtesy of our generous sponsors.

RADM Ronnie Tay, Chief of Navy and Vice President, SAFYC Board of Governors graced our celebration on 2 June 2007 as the Guest of Honour in the cocktail party at Changi Clubhouse. He shared the stage with our Commodores, EXCO Members and sailors singing in chorus to the tune of “Happy Birthday” after the prizes for the Amazing Car Race, Keelboat Race and Fishing Competition were presented. Entertaining stage games and plentiful finger food kept the happiness quotient high through the night.

Performances by nubile young dancers, staff and students from the guitar club of Fairfield Methodist Secondary School rocked the stage on 9 June 2007. A foam party by the beach transformed Sembawang Clubhouse into “Club Med’ with heart thumping music and slick dance moves by party goers. The foam enclosure became a major play-pen for the little ones on the following day.

The SAF Yacht Club would like to thank all our Members, Guests and Well- Wishers for their continual support, and joining in our celebratory activities.

Happy 40th birthday, SAF Yacht Club!!!!!
