Griselda
- Optimist Champ!
Griselda Khng is fast becoming a household name in the world
of sailing.
This 13-year-old sailing maestro from CHIJ (Toa Payoh) made
a smashing debut in the Asean Open Optimist Championship at
Chaungtha beach, Myanmar in December 2004. She swept both
the Open and Girl's titles, and was engaged in a close fight
with Malaysian Alvin Yeow. She pulled away with 19 penalty
points, 5 fewer than Alvin.

Finding her roots in the Get Kids
Afloat (GKA) sailing programme in 1999, it's hard
to imagine this sailing prodigy once found the sea fearsome.
"I remember that I was very scared of the sea as it seemed
really big to me but my coach then, Uncle Junior, helped me
to overcome my fears. The GKA programme was really fun!"
Having achieved her aim of being the Asean Optimist champ,
Griselda now has her sights set on participating at the coming
SEA Games and World Optimist Championship.
