The wave runners returned to SAFYC, Changi Clubhouse after a 2 year hiatus since the last National Jet Sports Championship held on 29 May 2005 organized by Singapore Powerboat Association (SPBA).
18 Jet Ski riders, including 5 participants from Malaysia, turned up for the adrenaline pumping competition on 3 June 2007 at the SAF Yacht Club. In true ‘fast and furious’ style, the riders staged the final showdown at the Club’s |
waterfront, readily equipped with their mean machines. Channeling all their bravado and stamina for the competition, they charged through the waters to outrace one another in Round 1 of the National Jet Sports Endurance Championship. It was certainly no mean feat to complete the entire 50 nautical miles race. Winner of the Endurance Race was Desmond Tan representing the Squadron East Team.
Hordes of spectators were witnesses to the wave crashing event as the riders zipped around the determined course in a battle against time for the Yamaha Slalom Grand Prix S-1 Worldwide with Leonard Tan having outraced the rest, emerging tops in the Timed Trial category.
Host of the National Jet Sports Championship this time round, the SAF Yacht Club aims to promote more sea sports activities including jet skiing among Singaporeans and regional sea sports enthusiasts. It hopes to do so by bringing the action closer to the public in upcoming events.
In a bid to introduce the sports to more people, including SAFYC members, the SAF Yacht Club will be providing a new course named the Jet Ski Familiarization Course which will assist people with Powered Pleasure Craft Driving License (PPCDL) to become more confident of operating on a Jet Ski.
Course participants will be exposed to the theory and practical know-how’s to maneuver a jet ski, including the safety precautions to be heeded. Please contact james@safyc.org.sg or 6389 3779 for more information on the course.
